Window Dressings Add a Splash of Colour as Business Engagement Event is Announced

Local businesses are showing their support for Perth’s City of Culture bid with colourful new window dressings as local businesses are given an open invitation to a business engagement event.

The event will be held in Perth Civic Hall at 2 High Street on Tuesday 7th Feb from 6pm – 8pm. The event is a chance for local businesses to come along and discuss the value of culture and how the Perth 2021 bid can improve the civic, social, economic and cultural benefits that Perth and Kinross has to offer.

Guests will have the opportunity to pledge their support for the Perth bid and network with other local businesses. The event will also feature a panel of speakers including; David Watt, Chief Executive of Arts & Business Scotland, John Bullough, Chair of Perth City Development Board, Geoff Crowe, Director of 21cc Group Limited and Fiona Robertson, Head of Public Service Reform, Culture & Community Development at Perth & Kinross Council.

The event is being supported by members of the Perth Traders Association, which includes local jewellery store Silver Linings. The shop opened in March 2016 and specialises in handmade jewellery, unique gifts and promoting Scottish designers and was one of the first businesses to show their support by putting up a Perth 2021 window vinyl.

Kyley Campbell, Jewellery Designer and Owner of Silver Linings, said:

“I think it’s good for all the businesses to show their support for City of Culture. It would be a great thing for the city and because I’m a creative business, and City of Culture is all about creativity, it would be beneficial for my business.”

“The business engagement evening sounds like a good way to get more information, to network and to see what ideas other people have. It’s good to have as much information out there for everybody and maybe other things can happen because of having that opportunity to meet.”

The event is being organised by Perth City Centre Manager Leigh Brown, who said:

“The Perth 2021 bid for UK City of Culture will provide many opportunities for businesses; from increased visitor numbers and a heightened profile for Perth and Perthshire, which will encourage more people to come and live, work and invest in the region. The Business Engagement event will give businesses the opportunity to hear more detail of the ambitions of Perth and Kinross and to hear how the bid is just part of the ambitious plans for the City being shaped though the City Development Board. The event will showcase why Perth really is the place for business and businesses will be able to pledge their support to the Perth 2021 bid. This will be the first of a series of events to keep the business community involved and informed as the bid progresses.”
